GENERAL OVERVIEW: The Nevyansk Mechanical Plant, one of the older plants in the Yekaterinburg area, produced artillery shells and aircraft bombs for the military. During World War II, it produced a peak of a million howitzer shells a month, or 50 percent of the Red Army's needs. Today it produces industrial equipment, including presses of various kinds, and domestic fixtures such as furnaces, electric stove burners, and waffle irons. The plant reportedly ended all its military production during 1992.

GENERAL OVERVIEW: The All-Russian Scientific Research Institute of Experimental Physics (VNIIEF) is the former Soviet Union's premier research and development center for nuclear weapons. The city of Kremlev, formerly known as Arzamas-16, is located about 200 miles southeast of Moscow and has a total population of about 80,000 people. GENERAL OVERVIEW: SIBNIA is one of Russia's leading aviation research institutes, with departments devoted to aerodynamics, avionics testing, full-scale fatigue testing, thermal strength testing, fatigue and loading spectra, and dynamic strength testing.
