Esteghlal

In 1993 China agreed to contruct two 300 MW (electrical) reactors for Iran, though the project was cancelled in 1997. near Bushehr on the Persian Gulf. There is no small confusion in the literature concerning the location of this project, which some sources assert [evidently incorrectly] was to be located at "Esteghlal" near Bushehr. In fact, this project was to be located Darkhovin.

Although the "Esteghlal" placename is well attested, the NIMA GEOnet Names Server (GNS) has just flat out never heard of any place remotely resembling the name Esteghlal, although there is a popular soccer team in Iran by this name.
