B-2 bombers deploying to Guam

Released: Mar 17, 1998

LANGLEY AIR FORCE BASE, Va. (AFNS) -- For the first time, the Air Force is deploying two B-2 Spirit bombers to a forward location to conduct sustained training operations.

Two B-2 Spirit bombers and about 200 airmen from the 509th Bomb Wing at Whiteman Air Force Base, Mo., will deploy to Andersen AFB, Guam, March 23 - April 3. The deployment is part of an Air Combat Command-sponsored exercise.

This Global Power exercise is intended to demonstrate the wing's and the aircraft's ability to deploy and operate from locations throughout the world. During the deployment, the aircrews will conduct a series of weapons drops at a bombing range in the Northern Mariana Islands and fly low-level missions. Ground crews will sharpen their skills by maintaining and arming their aircraft in an unfamiliar environment.

The B-2 is a multirole bomber capable of delivering precision weapons and massive firepower anywhere in the world in a short time, while enjoying the technological advantage of stealth. Its stealth characteristics are derived from a combination of reduced infrared, acoustic, electromagnetic, visual and radar signatures. (Courtesy of ACC News Service)
