DF-3
China began work on a missile that could target the continental United States in November 1961. The projected DF-3 ICBM was to have a 10,000 km range, using the liquid oxygen and kerosene propellants used in the Soviet R-7 and the US Atlas. However, technical
setbacks and the economic crisis produced by the Great Leap Forward slowed the project, and in 1963 the DF-3 ICBM was canceled, with the DF-3 designation devolving to the DF-3 MRBM program.
